The Overview -

Fears of the Vampire is a story about survival. The survival of those who are believed to never die. As the pages of this story are turned characters are unfolded with them. Among these characters are a few very powerful Vampires struggling with survival. These Vampires, having evolved from humans, bring with them into their new life the age old complexities that they would hope to leave behind. Being more powerful, richer or less able to die doesn't change the prevailing motive - the will to exist. Throughout the book, the fear of losing life and love is ever present. While the fastest Antelope hopes never to be caught the most cunning and strongest Lion hopes never to be without food. The fear or anxiety of losing what we have is great; the fear of losing our own existence is overwhelming.

Jebel keeps others off guard throughout the story with his mental power. His mindshifts and mind moves keep others wondering were and when he may turn up. Better still, wondering where they may turn up. Slipping in and out of other dimensions and pulling others through time and space is his specialty.

The identity of father and then grandfather creeps up and has Jebel fully in its clutches before the ancient mind makes the connection. He tells of a time when he had love and it was taken from him.

His mentor, Amunna, and his female love, Nefertiti, were taken away from him in a moment of weakness and now he suffers terribly from guilt that he hadn't fought hard enough for them.

Now he is forced to come to grips with emotional ties again. They are not just responsibilities. He has a family and friends that he couldn't bare losing. Slowly through the story we see him as acting caretaker, giving his family - now including his friends - the tools and the opportunities to learn how to cope with whatever life deals them. He prepares them as best he can for the time when he may not be there anymore.
